Why We Partner with Parents.

Parenting is among life’s greatest adventures. However, the journey is exhausting, messy, and at times downright overwhelming. It sounds daunting, right? The process of raising children is one that requires selflessness and humility unlike anything else in life. For that reason, we are committed to partnering with moms and dads to provide both guidance and on-going support at every stage of the process.

What is a Parent Dedication?

At Ben Davis Christian Church, one of our favorite times of the year are Parent Dedications. These moments are an incredible milestone for our families. Parent Dedications are a concrete way that our parents and church community come together to show their intention to invest in the lives of the next generation.

Before attending a Baby Dedication, each parent or guardian is required to attend a one-hour course to learn what to expect on dedication day, as well as what the dedication commitment entails.

When is Parent Dedication?

Parent Dedications are held during weekend services in May and October. Each Parent Dedication features a special ceremony for new moms and dads and their children. Rather than performing a baptism, the Parent Dedication consists of a public pact between the parents and the Ben Davis Christian Church community where they commit to raise their kids in a Jesus-centered home. Parents aren’t alone in the process. Our church also promises to walk with parents through every stage of their parenting journey.

Does my child have to be a newborn?

Not at all! We understand that you may be new to Ben Davis Christian Church – and perhaps church in general! No matter where you are in your journey, if you have a child of any age, it’s not too late to commit to raising them in a gospel-centered home.

Is membership required to participate?

We don’t require membership for participation in a Parent Dedication. However, Parent Dedication is a commitment parents are making to raise their child in a God-honoring home. Therefore, church participation and membership will be an important part of upholding that commitment. We encourage every parent to consider covenanting to our church in membership!

Are there any age requirements for participation?

Our Parent Dedication ceremony is designed for the parents of young children. Most parents who participate are celebrating a newborn or preschool-age child.
