Does anyone love me?

It’s easy to feel small in today’s world.

Global hurts pull at our hearts: Economic upheaval. Global pandemics. Civil unrest.

Personal pain threatens to bury us in despair: Betrayal from loved ones. Disconnection from real friends. A gnawing feeling in your gut that no one knows you or cares that you exist.

In the dark, quiet moments of our day, we find ourselves looking into the mirror and asking our reflection, “Does anyone actually love ME?”

When we carry the weight of the world’s unrest and our personal pain on our shoulders every day, it can be hard to believe that we are truly loved. When our hearts feel alone, even a kind word from another person can leave us with a sense of distrust.

Isn’t everyone just out for themselves? People only love us while it is convenient for them.

An Incredible Truth

Within the pages of the Bible, we discover an incredible truth. The God of the Universe – the One who breathed neutron stars into existence and created humanity with a speck of dust – that God has proclaimed His love for us. How?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Maybe you’ve heard of this verse before. Perhaps you have read this scripture and thought, “Ok, great, but God doesn’t know how BAD I am. I’m not really worthy of any love. Why would Jesus want to die for ME?”

Luckily for us, God knew we would feel this unloved. He knows us so profoundly that He wrote these words through the apostle Paul:

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person – though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die –  but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8)

The beauty of the gospel is that we are loved despite our greatest evils. The darkest, most evil, most terrible thought you’ve had is not enough to turn the love of God the Father away from you. In fact, it only draws Jesus nearer in love.

Can I know for sure?

Do you know this love today? Do you know that there is a God who longs to bring you into His open arms like a Father seeing His beloved child for the first time?

Take hope in this truth today: You are loved. Far more than you ever imagined. Far more than you ever dared to hope or believe. That love is found in the heart of Jesus Christ, and He is at the door of your heart today, ready to knock and welcome you home.
