Why Should I Give?

February 18, 2021

Tithing gets a really bad rap sometimes. What is truly a beautiful act of generosity is spun as the church being greedy and looking for money. That couldn’t be any further from the truth. The church exists as an agent of God’s power in the world. With the help of your gifts, the church can have the resources it needs to make the Gospel known all over the world.

Tithing isn’t really giving – It’s returning. Everything we have belongs to God, and we are merely stewards of it. God asks that we invest our resources into ministry so that His work could be furthered in our community and the world. What may seem like a meaningless act at first actually holds tremendous power to change people’s lives for the better. Your gifts go to serving people who are in need.

Tithing is an act of obedience. In Matthew 6:21, Jesus says, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (NLT). If we hold back our tithes, it shows where our heart lies. It shows that our priorities are on ourselves and not the needy around us. Always remember that it’s not about the amount you give; it’s about trusting God to use what you give to change lives for the Gospel and to provide for your every need as well.

Never doubt the impact that your tithes have. You have the power to fuel the ministry of the church. Giving of your resources is a way that you can show your devotion to the faith. It’s a way we partner with our church in its mission to further the work of Jesus. Next time the offering plate passes you by, consider how your church’s ministries affect people around you. They can’t do what they do without your help. Are you ready to step up today?
