How Do I Get the Most Out of My Bible?

Develop a Healthy Habit of Bible Reading

The Bible has many layers. Rushing through our Bible reading to complete it only leaves us missing critical insight. It’s essential that we develop healthy Bible reading habits that will help us slow down and truly understand what God is trying to say to us through His Word. These are practices that take time to become routine, but they are worth every bit of effort that we put in.

So how do you get the most out of reading the Bible?

1. Take Your Time

If there’s one thing you take away from this article, let it be this: do not rush your Bible reading! God’s Word is complex and multi-faceted, speaking into the lives of everyone throughout all of time. You must take it slowly, giving yourself time to digest what you are reading. If you don’t, you will miss out on so much. Hurrying through your reading will only leave you missing out on what God is truly trying to say.

 2. Pray While Reading

Reading the Bible is more than just taking in information: it’s a conversation with God. While we read, God speaks into our lives, revealing profound truths. We likewise must respond to Him with vulnerable hearts, asking for His guidance along the way. We can be sure that He hears our prayers because He says, “when you pray, I will listen” (Jeremiah 29:12, NIV).

3. Use Bible Study Tools

The Historical, cultural, and linguistic information that we find in Bible study tools can go a long way in helping us to understand the context of the particular passage we are studying. There are an abundance of resources available, both in print and online. Study Bibles can be the most practical, as the resources are built right within the text. Do your research and find a Bible study tool that will aid you along your Bible reading journey.

Don’t miss out on all of the benefits of reading your Bible. It can be a genuinely life-changing experience. Don’t settle for anything less.
