Our faith in plain words.

Everything we do at Ben Davis starts with Jesus and the Bible. If you’re new to church or coming back after some time away, here’s a simple look at what we believe and why it matters for your everyday life.

01The Bible is God’s Word, and we trust it.

The Bible is God’s Word. Human authors wrote its 66 books as the Holy Spirit guided them, so we trust it completely. It’s true, and it has the final say in what we believe and how we live.

02There is one God in three persons.

The Trinity

There is one God, who exists as three equal and eternal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is all-powerful, He knows everything, and He is present everywhere.

The Father

The Father is the eternal Creator. He is holy and perfect, the source of all life, and the One who holds it all together. We come to know Him through Jesus.

Jesus

Jesus is the Son of the living God and equal with the Father. He lived a life without sin, died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, and rose from the grave three days later, showing His power over sin and death.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is fully God. He shows people their need for Jesus and lives in every believer from the moment they’re saved. He gives us power to live for God, helps us understand His Word, and guides us toward what’s right. We want to follow His lead every day.

03Every person is made in God’s image.

Every Person Matters

Every person has worth to God. People are the high point of everything He made.

Made in God’s Image

God made people in His image, male and female, to know Him. That’s why every person deserves dignity, no matter their ability, gender, race, or age.

Broken by Sin

People chose to disobey God, and that broke our relationship with Him. Every one of us is born with a sinful nature and sins against God, and nothing we do on our own can fix it.

04Jesus saves us by grace through faith.

Salvation is God forgiving our sins and bringing us back into a relationship with Him. It’s a gift of grace that we receive by faith in Jesus alone. Here’s how the Bible says to respond.

Baptism

Baptism is the first step in following Jesus. We baptize by immersing people completely in water, which pictures Jesus’ death, burial, and rising from the dead. All it takes is turning from sin and putting your faith in Jesus.

05The church is the body of Christ.

The church is the body of Christ, and Jesus is its head. Our main job is to make disciples who make disciples. When you’re baptized, you become part of His body, and the church is healthy when everyone works together in unity.

06Jesus is coming back.

Jesus Will Return

Jesus is coming back to earth, and He will reign forever as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. No one knows the day or the hour, so we get ready by living faithfully and doing what He told us to do.

Heaven and Hell

Heaven and hell are real. Heaven is eternal life with God, full of joy, for everyone who trusts Jesus. Hell is eternal separation from God for those who reject Him. Where each of us spends eternity depends on how we respond to Jesus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s talk about the hard questions.

Some topics come up a lot, and they can feel personal. They aren’t what makes someone a Christian, but we think you should know where we stand. And if you have a question we didn’t cover, we’d love to talk with you.

Ask a Question

The Sanctity of Human Life

We believe life begins at conception and ends at natural death. We believe elective abortion and euthanasia are sin. In rare situations where a life is in danger, we ask God for wisdom and lean on His grace.

Marriage and Sexuality

We believe marriage, as Jesus described it, is a covenant between one man and one woman. We believe sex outside of that marriage, including in same-sex relationships, is sexual immorality.

Racial Reconciliation

Jesus invites people of every race into God’s Kingdom. Knowing the long history of racial injustice, we work for justice and make racial reconciliation a priority in our church.
