Guide Them to Healing in Christ
Jesus is our great healer. Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds” (NLT). Jesus’ love is reflected in our actions. We are representatives of Christ in the world! When we show those struggling with depression the healing power of Christ, they see God’s love for them.
Be There For Support
More than anything, those that are struggling need support. Whether it be a hand to lend or an ear to hear, just our presence can make all the difference. Galatians 6:2 says, “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ” (NLT).
Show Patience and Love in Everything
Never do anything less than exhibit humility and gentleness at all times. When struggling with depression, people need extra reassurance. Give it to them. Ephesians 4:2 says, “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love” (NLT).
A person in the throes of depression may feel inadequate. We should be careful not to put more pressure on them or heap shame. Depression is not a sin! It is something that can affect us all at any given time. To truly emulate Jesus, we need to serve them and be their ally in their battle. It is both a great honor and great responsibility to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. Take it seriously, and always be there for those in need.
