Why Should I Read the Bible?

February 18, 2021

To many, the Bible may seem old and outdated. This assumption couldn’t be further from the truth. The Bible is the Word of God, speaking to new believers each generation. You may ask yourself, “Why should I read the Bible?” The Bible has something incredible to say to everyone who reads it. Its message is not just in the past but also in the present and the future. It is not only relevant to your life but necessary. Having a daily Bible reading plan yields immeasurable spiritual benefits not available elsewhere.

2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right” (NLT). The Bible is our manual for life. It is the Word of God, through which He teaches us, corrects us in our sin, and shows us what truth is. When you have a healthy relationship with the Bible, you start to understand God’s character. That knowledge leads you to build an unbreakable bond with Him.

God also uses His Word to reveal His purposes for our lives. God has given a special gift to each of His children, and He has prepared a time and place for you to use it. Through studying His Word, He speaks into your heart and shows you what He created you for. God desires for you to walk the path that He has paved just for you. It’s through His Word that He shows it to you.

You should read the Bible because through your Bible reading, you will encounter God. Your relationship with Him will dictate the course of your life. Engaging with God’s Word is irreplaceable in the life of a believer. Commit to a daily Bible reading plan and watch as God ignites your faith like never before.
