Love God

February 7, 2021

The Pharisees were continually trying to catch Jesus in a trap. Jesus had captured the people’s attention through His ministry, and the Pharisees saw it as a threat to their influence. In Matthew 22, they ask a loaded question in an attempt to trip Him up. They ask Jesus what the greatest commandment was in the Scriptures. How could one possibly ever answer such a question?

But Jesus didn’t hesitate in His answer. He knew precisely what to say. Jesus answers them in Matthew 22:37-38: “Jesus replied, ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment” (NLT). Jesus said it firmly, making His point clear. The most important thing you can do in life, the very reason God created you, is to live in a relationship with Him.

Let your love for the Lord be the foundation of your faith. Through your relationship with Him, He will guide you, nurture you, and reveal His purposes for your life. God desires to draw you closer and closer to Him because in His presence is where you will truly find yourself. It’s where you were always meant to be.

Commit to making daily time to devote to your relationship with God. Seek Him in every aspect of your life. As you begin to be more aware of His presence in even the smallest details of your day, your love for Him will grow. As that love grows, so too will your faith. That faith will take you on a journey that you could never imagine. When you walk with God, you will live every day surrounded by unconditional love.
